One blog that I have a style crush on is: Does my bum look 40 in this? by Kat. Update: IG @doesmybumlook40

How I found this site was via an article in the Daily Mail talking about “School gate icons“. The article itself was quite good, but the comments were horrible. Basically the article was saying that real people feel that the fashion business – magazines, online – is so unrealistic, that they want to use their blogs to show that real people can look good too. Just because you don’t resemble a 14 year old girl doesn’t mean you can’t look great.

This was one factor to reignite my own interest in fashion. I had given up. But seeing all these bloggers looking really good (even though they weren’t model thin, beautiful or rich) was a huge, huge turning point for me. My credit card has never been the same since!

Anyway this blog – Does my bum look 40 in this – was one of my new-found favourites because Kat often wears skinny jeans, scarves and sneakers (well, not so much flats). Which is my uniform. For all that I want to look better, at the same time I want to remain comfortable and not spend too much money.

Seeing the way she “shopped her wardrobe” was also revelatory. At first I thought she was insanely wealthy. But then I realised that I was seeing the same key items over and over again, combined with cheaper high street purchases.

On top of having a style that I thought was cool (and doable for me), I also love her sense of humour. I really look forward to her latest whinge about the weather. It’s like chatting to another lovely, funny mum at the school gate. Another blog that inspires me but also cheers me up.
