I mentioned the other day that I’ve been working on a theory of how to build a work wardrobe; one that allows you to take 5 minutes to get dressed in the morning, and helps simplify the shopping process.
In this post, I’m listing the looks I chose which suit my:
- body shape (tall with swimmers shoulders),
- age (40+) and colouring (brunette).
Here’s what I came up with:
1. “Chanel-style” jackets

2. Moto jackets
I wear fabric or tweed versions (not leather) with loose, long tops and skinny pants.

3. Button-down shirt and sweater/jumper
All my jumpers are crew neck to break up my wide shoulders.

4. Long cardigans
with skinnies. My uniform of choice.

5. Cropped pants.
with loafers, ballet pumps or leather sandals (in summer).
6. Army style jacket.
7. Loose, long jumpers

I love this look, but very few big jumpers suit me – they have to be tight around my ribs or I look like a box. Anyway, not really smart enough for work.
8. Knee high boots and skirt.
I love my boots but I have a feeling they aren’t quite as smart as this!

These looks are meant to be inspirational. Styles I like. Styles that suit me.
Not surprisingly they aren’t too far removed from things already in my wardrobe.
