I started using the Headspace iphone Take 10 app to relax for 10 minutes every day, and I think it’s changing my life.
I have been interested and read so much about meditation but I’ve never been able to actually do it. I’m finding the Headspace app works as it is more of a guided meditation, than just a start and stop timer. Each lesson starts with a brief instruction or animation. Each lesson builds upon the last.
Another study, conducted by researchers at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, taught mindfulness to a group of people with clinical levels of anxiety and found that 90% experienced significant reductions in anxiety – and depression too
I listen to Pema Chodron audiobooks a lot. One of the things I learnt from her talks is that meditation should be done every day. The reason for this is that with a daily practice, you observe your thoughts in all kinds of moods. No matter what state you are in, you just show up. A daily practice means you see all real representation of all your states and thoughts. Not just when you are happy or sad.
I love Headspace! I was the same way: I always *wanted* to do meditation, but could never get the hang of it. Headspace finally worked for me. After nearly 2 years, I’m now halfway through the final 80-day series of the original program (they recently updated their program, website and app) and I would never have imagined I’d be getting up early to sit 20 minutes every morning. I love Andy’s little messages every day, too: they’re sanity making.
So is that how you stay fab while being frantic? (Dad joke!). I’m definitely signing up once I finish Take 10. I can’t believe how easy it makes meditating every day and how much calmer I feel afterwards.
